BatteryCare: Helping Your Portable Computer’s Battery Live a Long Life
If you’re like us, maintaining your laptop/notebook/netbook’s battery is about as high on your priority list as cleaning out leaves from your house’s gutters. You know it needs to be done, but…
It seems that the best utilities do one thing and do it well. BatteryCare is one of those. Basically it aims to maximize your battery’s life by tracking the discharges (i.e. letting the battery charge drop from 100% to 3%), and prompting you to recalibrate after 30 discharges.
Also the “Proper laptop usage guide” has some helpful tips about why it’s not helpful and even harmful to discharge your battery to 0%, and when it’s good to run your computer on AC power with the battery removed.
BatteryCare is a free utility. It is a small (627KB) download and can help you easily maintain your battery. Check it out and see if it meets your needs.
