Your PC. Prepared for Anything.
Whats on my PC? Belarc Advisor
Belarc Advisor is a free-for-personal-use utility (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) that inspects your Windows computer and creates a nicely formatted HTML report of your installed hardware and software. Its worth installing and running (then backing up the report files thats saved by default at C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp) to have just in case.
The report includes information on just about everything you can think of, including:
- Accounts (user and system)
- Installed Printers
- AntiVirus status (as in which antivirus software youre running)
- Missing Microsoft Security Hotfixes Belarc Advisor checks whats installed on your computer against the current Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary. Besides knowing whether your PC is up-to-date, Belarc Advisor seems like a significantly quicker way to determine this than checking with the Windows Update site.
- Installed Software (and the version number of each)
- Software Licenses, and for several pieces of Microsoft software such as Windows XP, Office and Money, the key (the code youre prompted to enter during the installation of that software) is also listed. Very handy!
Take a look at the Belarc website and consider using Belarc Advisor to create a nice snapshot of whats on your computer.

Open Audit (http://www.open-audit.org) is also pretty nifty – open source as well.
